Memorable MET Moments: 10 Of the Wildest Outfits In MET Gala History

Crazy MET Gala Outfits

The annual MET Gala is held to raise funds for the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute. Every year, celebs walk the red carpet in wild and statement-making outfits. While the goal is to “go crazy,” some stars have sported truly shocking and head-turning ensembles at the event. In honor of the 2018 MET Gala, which takes place on May 7th, we’ve taken a trip down memory lane and compiled ten of the wildest outfits in MET Gala history.

1. Kim Kardashian, 2013

 Crazy MET Gala Outfits

Absolutely everyone was talking about Kim Kardashian’s 2013 MET Gala dress and it wasn’t anything nice. We couldn’t help but think that the pattern and material looked like a couch! Even if the attention wasn’t good, at least she got people talking!

2. Madonna, 2016

Crazy MET Gala Outfits

While she’s always been known to push the envelope, the back of Madonna’s 2016 MET Gala outfit revealed just too much. Madonna has a tendency to miss the mark when it comes to MET Gala ensembles. This isn’t the last time you’ll be seeing her on this list…

3. Beyoncé, 2016

 Crazy MET Gala Outfits

We’d like to think that Queen Bey can do no wrong….but we’d be wrong. Her head-to-toe latex gown from the 2016 MET Gala forced everyone to have the same thought: Why is Beyoncé wearing a giant condom?

4. Katy Perry, 2017

 Crazy MET Gala Outfits

While Katy Perry did follow the theme of the 2017 MET Gala (Comme de Garcon), this outfit looked totally nuts on the red carpet. We couldn’t even tell it was Katy underneath it!

5. Sarah Jessica Parker, 2015

 Crazy MET Gala Outfits

Long before Rihanna earned the title, Sarah Jessica Parker was once considered the Queen of the MET Gala. She always nailed the perfect ensemble. One particularly memorable outfit was her 2015 choice, which featured this fiery headpiece.

6. Zendaya, 2017

 Crazy MET Gala Outfits

Zendaya is always gorgeous and flawless, but we’re still not sure about the giant parrots on her 2017 MET Gala gown.

7. Madonna, 2013

 Crazy MET Gala Outfits

We promised you hadn’t seen the last of her! Madonna lands on our list again with this complete mess she wore to the 2013 MET Gala. You’re supposed to go over-the-top for the event, but plaid plus fishnet plus pink heels is borderline offensive.

8. Rihanna, 2017

 Crazy MET Gala Outfits

If you took a look at our recent list of the Top 10 Best MET Gala Outfits, then you’re probably feeling some deja vu looking at this Rihanna ensemble. We decided to include it on both lists because public opinion was so torn after RihRih wore this outfit! Many people loved it because it fit the Comme de Garcon theme, but many others hated it because, well, look at it. We’re still not sure how to feel.

9. Selena Gomez, 2017

 Crazy MET Gala Outfits

At first glance, Selena Gomez’s 2017 Coach gown is gorgeous, pretty, and ethereal. Then you remember: This is the MET Gala! This outfit is way too simple, way too elegant, and way too boring!

10. Chrissy Teigen, 2017

Crazy MET Gala Outfits

We’re obsessed with everything Chrissy Teigen does. She’s gorgeous. She’s hilarious. But this dress? It’s like the puffy shirt from Seinfeld was run through a paper shredder.

Memorable MET Moments: The 10 Best MET Gala Looks Of All Time

MET Gala Fashion

In exactly one week we’ll see our favourite celebs wearing their most striking outfits at the 2018 MET Gala. Every year, the biggest names in fashion and the most famous faces in the world gather at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City to raise funds for the MET’s Costume Institute. If you’re not familiar with the MET Gala, this is no average red carpet in terms of fashion. Classic couture gowns are swapped out for over-the-top, attention-grabbing ensembles. Some of the most jaw-dropping outfits of all time have been sported at the MET Gala. Before this year’s event, we’d like to take a trip down memory lane and share the Top 10 Best MET Gala looks of…

1. Rihanna, 2017

Best MET Gala Looks

Rihanna has come to be known as the “Queen of the MET Gala” and for good reason! She has had some of the best MET Gala looks of all time! Last year she made our jaws drop with this insanely intricate ensemble that honoured the 2017 theme of the event: Comme des Garçons.

2. Emma Watson, 2016

Best MET Gala Looks

Emma Watson is always chic and classic, and her appearance at the 2016 MET Gala was no exception. This outfit was actually a pantsuit with a skirt over it. The black-and-white simplicity of it is gorgeous.

3. Gigi Hadid, 2017

Best MET Gala Looks

Gigi Hadid turned heads last year in this beige asymmetrical look. We love the tulle. We love the sheer stocking. We love this entire ensemble.

4. Rihanna, 2015

Best MET Gala Looks

The Queen of the MET Gala makes her second appearance on our list with this golden yellow outfit from the 2015 event. Where do we even begin with this one? Do you see that train? Do you see that fur trim? Do you see this?! This has gone down, indisputably, as one of the best MET Gala looks ever.

5. Blake Lively, 2016

Best MET Gala Looks

Blake Lively looked like an ethereal princess in this floral embellished gown at the 2016 MET Gala fundraiser.

6. Priyanka Chopra, 2017

Best MET Gala Looks

Priyanka Chopra nearly killed us with this incredible look at the 2017 MET Gala! It looked so good on her and showed that the MET Gala is the only place you can dress as a sexy Inspector Gadget.

7. Beyoncé, 2015

Best MET Gala Looks

What would our list be without Queen Bey? She made jaws drop at the 2015 fundraiser in this semi-sheer gown. Have you ever seen anything more glamourous?

8. Zendaya, 2015

Best MET Gala Looks

Zendaya is one of our fashion faves and she has had her fare share of great MET Gala looks. We especially loved this celestial inspired outfit she wore to the 2015 event.

9. Kim Kardashian and Kanye West, 2016

Best MET Gala Looks

You can always count on Kimye to bring something interesting to the red carpet and they definitely didn’t disappoint at the 2016 MET Gala. Kanye even matched his contacts to their outfits! Now that is some commitment to fashion.

10. Lupita Nyong’o, 2016

Best MET Gala Looks

Lupita Nyong’o can do no wrong in our eyes. Her look at the 2016 MET Gala is one of the greatest of all time. We love the alien green color of her dress. We love the hairstyle. We love it all!

Tracee Ellis Ross Is Wearing THE BEST DRESS

This is so charming and great on her, and I’ll be honest: If I had an extra grand floating around and a wedding on my calendar at which I really, REALLY needed to show up looking stunning yet carefree and as if this was totally not important at all, I just happen to look this great all the time, I would be taking my AmEx out of my wallet right about now. This dress is delightful, and it has a surprisingly sexy back (which you can see here on its product page at FarFetch) and it basically says, “why don’t you swan around in this holding an Aperol Spritz for a while?” and isn’t that a dress everyone basically needs in her wardrobe, anyway? Yes. Yes, it is.

The Latest From Claire Foy

Claire Foy, our erstwhile Queen, is apparently taking over the role of Lisbeth Sanders for The Girl in the Spider’s Web, which is the first of the Dragon Tattoo books that was written by David Lagercrantz and not Stieg Larsson. I find that entire enterprise fascinating — to my mind, if the author dies, so do the books (unless we’re talking about a situation where the book was nearly complete in the first place, such as I’ll Be Gone In the Dark, and a few other such instances), and while Larsson’s brother and father (who control his estate) were fine with this book series continuing with another book,  his long-time girlfriend was not. BUT! Wikipedia implies that she wasn’t pleased….because she’d written a fourth book in the series herself! All I know is that, ironically, this whole thing sounds like the set-up for a murder mystery itself. And that Wiki entry also told me that Rooney Mara had been under the impression that she was also going to do this movie, but clearly something happened, because instead of Mara reprising her role, we’ve got Claire Foy seemingly deciding she is just going to do a full-on Rooney Mara red carpet impression? Join me.

Are We Ready For This Style of Trouser To Come Back?

Well, first of all, this PARTICULAR pair of pants is what I call Hospital Pink. It’s the exact same shade as the plastic pitchers that hospitals give you for water, and the plastic bins they have, one of which we used to bathe the beans for the first time (they were only like 3 or 4 pounds at the time, so they fit in Hospital Pink tupperware). We had several of the pitchers around our house for a while, because when we left, the nurses were like, “HERE, TAKE EVERYTHING,” and I associate those things and therefore this color with a really freaky five days — and then ensuing five NICU weeks, which was FULL of Hospital Pink — in which we weren’t totally sure whether the beans were going to make it (they are fine)(and so old, you guys; they’re turning NINE in June. WHAT HAPPENED). So: Hospital Pink. I just can’t with it. That is not Natalie’s fault, but it explains one of my reservations here.

Another is: I feel like I passed through high-waisted (ish) pants with a thick trench-style belt a long time ago. The offshoot of this is when the pants/shorts also have a paper-bag waist. That’s probably en route, too. Were you around for this the first time, and are you here for it again? I will give Natalie that she’s making it look cooler than I ever did, but I’m still not sure it’s a car I’m ready to climb into again. Belts and I don’t play well together; they are SO unforgiving of Life Bloat, and Life Bloat is my Life Boat. Like, you can take my pride, but you cannot take my Diet Coke and salt snacks.

The Best and Worst Looks From the 2018 Academy of Country Music Awards

ACM fashion

It was country music’s biggest night of the year! The 2018 Academy of Country Music Awards was held on Sunday night at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. Country’s biggest stars came out in full-force to celebrate the best and brightest musicians of the year. There was no shortage of great looks on the red carpet and there was also a few fashion-fails. Check out the best and worst looks from the 2018 Academy of Country Music Awards right here!

The Best of the Best

2018 country music awards

So technically our choice for “Best Dressed” didn’t walk the red carpet, but she was the by far the most flawless face of the night. Gwen Stefani literally took our breath away with everything about this look. Her hair and makeup is angelic. Her dress is perfection. Those boots are gorgeous! Can you tell we loved the look?

2018 country music awards

Miranda Lambert looked ravishing in red with this beautiful dress. The country superstar had an amazing night. She broke the record for the most ACM awards ever won by an artist! Congrats, girl!

2018 country music awards

We always love a good pantsuit and Cassadee Pope didn’t disappoint us with this one! It looked sexy and chic. Plus those shoes are incredible!

2018 country music awards

Kelsea Ballerini looked like an absolute princess in this flowing gown. We love how she paired it with casual hair and makeup!

2018 country music awards

It was hard to miss Lindsey Vonn in this bright yellow ballgown and we totally loved it! They say, “Go big or go home” and Lindsey definitely wasn’t going home!

The Worst of the Worst

2018 country music awards

We’re not sure where Brittany Kerr thought she was going in this dress. It’s saying “Miami nightclub” not “Country Music Awards.”

2018 country music awards

Eve is insanely beautiful, but this dress is not. It’s just a pink, fluffy mess. We’re not fans.

2018 country music awards

This is just…not working. No. We love Hillary Scott, but we don’t love this dress.

2018 country music awards

It’s not that we don’t like Julia Michaels’ dress. It’s an adorable dress! It’s just that it would look better at an afternoon luncheon than the Country Music Awards.

2018 country music awards

Lauren Alaina is a gorgeous girl but this dress missed the mark. Between the black lace and blue flowers, there’s just too much going on. We would have loved to see her in something more subtle.
