Fortnite Birthday Challenges Revealed And How To Solve Them
It’s Fortnite’s first birthday and to celebrate, Epic has dotted the map with little festive changes.*
The Battle Bus (pictured above) has been given a fun makeover, and a new set of challenges—neither Daily nor Weekly—has been revealed. These challenges are available to everyone, not just Battle Pass holders, so anyone can go out and solve them.
Here they are:
- Play 14 matches.
- Deal 1,000 damage to players.
- Dance in front of 10 different birthday cakes.
So these are fairly straightforward challenges. You should be able to deal 1,000 damage—with any weapon—across 14 matches. I recommend using whatever weapon you need to get damage and/or eliminations with for your Daily/Weekly challenges.
- For Season 5, Week 1 you need to deal damage with SMGs and get Clinger, Grenade or Stink Bomb eliminations.
- For Season 5, Week 2 you need to deal damage with Assault Rifles and get Sniper Rifle eliminations (yuck.)
With the help of this handy map (which includes the birthday cake locations) you should be able to dance in front of 10 different birthday cakes before you hit 14 matches also. Playing 50 vs 50 might make that challenge even easier since you’ll be able to dance more freely.
If you’re not used to this last one it’s probably because you haven’t been purchasing Fortnite’s Battle Pass. This type of challenge happens pretty much every week for Battle Pass owners, though dancing in front of cakes is new. We’ve had to dance in front of movie cameras before. It’s a fun way to change up the game a little and unlock rewards. For this birthday challenge, the Birthday Cake Back Bling is the final reward. Pretty cool.
Note: Some players won’t see these challenges yet. To find out more about why that might be, go here.

* It’s actually not Fortnite: Battle Royale’s birthday at all—that half of the larger Fortnite game didn’t launch until several months later. But the ‘Save the World’ portion of the game launched on July 25th, 2017 so here we are, celebrating that one day early.
There was supposed to be a selection of challenges to celebrate Fortnite’s first birthday included with this morning’s patch, but some players are reporting that the challenges are missing from the game.
Epic Games has cleared up the mystery: If you don’t have the challenges yet, they’ll be added when the shop refreshes tonight.
“It looks like the Birthday Challenges are late to the party for some Battle Royale players,” Fortnite’s official Twitter account explained. “They’ll arrive when the Store refreshes at 8pm Eastern Time.”
The challenges themselves will be simple to complete once they’re added to the game universally; you just need to dance in front of 10 cakes, deal 1,000 points of damage to enemy players and play 14 games. You’ll be given 5,000 XP, a new emote, a new spray and, ultimately, a birthday cake-style back bling for your troubles. Most players will likely be able to finish these challenges without even thinking about it.
